Hello

Women HRT

Bioidentical hormones are hormones that are chemically identical to those the human body produces naturally. They are typically derived from plant sources, such as soy or yam, and are designed to mimic the body’s own hormones in structure and function. These hormones are often used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a treatment used to relieve symptoms of menopause by replenishing estrogen and sometimes progesterone levels in the body. It can help alleviate symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and vaginal dryness.

As women age, typically in their 40s to 50s, their ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone. This natural reduction in hormones can lead to symptoms of menopause. HRT is used to replace these hormones and relieve symptoms associated with menopause.

There are several types of HRT, including:

  • Estrogen-only HRT: For women who have had a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus).
  • Combined HRT (Estrogen and Progesterone): For women who still have a uterus, as progesterone helps protect against uterine cancer caused by estrogen alone.
  • Bioidentical HRT: Uses hormones that are chemically identical to those naturally produced by the body.

  • Relief from hot flashes and night sweats.
  • Reduction in vaginal dryness and discomfort.
  • Improvement in mood, sleep, and energy levels.
  • Prevention of osteoporosis and fractures.
  • Possible reduction in the risk of heart disease for some women.

Yes, there are some risks associated with HRT, including:

  • Increased risk of blood clots.
  • Increased risk of certain types of breast cancer.
  • Increased risk of stroke or heart disease in some women, particularly those who begin HRT later in life.
  • These risks depend on individual health factors, the type of HRT used, and the duration of treatment.

Women experiencing moderate to severe menopause symptoms that affect quality of life may consider HRT. It's also beneficial for women at risk of osteoporosis or those with severe symptoms that aren't relieved by other treatments.

  • Women with a history of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or certain other hormone-related cancers.
  • Women with blood clotting disorders.
  • Women with untreated high blood pressure or liver disease.
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The duration of HRT varies from woman to woman. Some women may take it for a few years to manage symptoms, while others may need it longer. Doctors typically recommend the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to manage symptoms.

Yes, non-hormonal treatments are available for women who can't or prefer not to take HRT. These include:

  • Medications like SSRIs or SNRIs for mood and hot flashes.
  • Vaginal moisturizers or lubricants for vaginal dryness.
  • Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, diet, and stress management, may also help alleviate symptoms.

We recommend consulting with your doctor before using any supplements while pregnant or breastfeeding.
