Semaglutide (GLP-1)

Semaglutide (Ozempic) is used primarily to treat type 2 diabetes by helping to control blood sugar levels. It is also approved for weight loss under the brand name Wegovy, for individuals with obesity or overweight conditions. Semaglutide is the active ingredient found in branded weight loss & diabetes medication like Wegovy and Ozempic.

 Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it mimics the action of the GLP-1 hormone in the body. It helps lower blood sugar by stimulating insulin production in response to food, reduces appetite, and slows gastric emptying, helping people feel full for longer periods.  

Semaglutide is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) typically once a week. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. You should follow your healthcare provider’s instructions on how to inject the medication properly.

Common side effects include:

Nausea

Vomiting

Abdominal pain

Constipation

These side effects usually decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication.
